CURRENCY EXCHANGE

The euro is the unit of the Spanish monetary system. lt’s the single currency for 12 countries of the European Union (EU): , , , lreland, , Holland . , , ltaly, and . Foreign currency exchange can be carried out at any bank or savings bank (on Mondays to Fridays from 8.15 am. to 2 pm., and on Saturdays from 9 am. to 1 pm.). There are specific points for changing money throughout the central area of Madrid , especially in Puerta del Sol and Gran Vía. At Barajas airport currency exchange transactions can also be carried out 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

VAT REFUND

Tourists who are not resident in the European Union can take advantage of the repayment of tax (IVA) incIuded in the price of purchases that they make in a shop when they spend more than 90 euros n any one transaction. Ask for the repayment sup in the shops where you go shopping and you can reclaim the tax within a period of three months from the date of purchase.
